A study trip to Japan in the early  80’s triggered Marlies’ fascination
for Japan with its traditional theatre, Geisha life and Sumo wrestling.
For European Master and artist Marlies Vonk an almost unlimited source
of inspiration. She made numerous portraits of Kabuki actors (all man !), studied Geisha history, visited Japanese Geisha-schools and sketched
also many – many hours during  Sumo-Wrestling-Games.  

All this resulted in a beautifully balanced collection oil-paintings and water-colors. A highlight in this series as well in here career is the 4-tych
