Commedia Dell’Arte

Marlies Vonk’s her latest source of inspiration is the  Commedia Dell’ Arte.
In this French/Italian mix of ironic – satirical – theatre and daily life,
the human vanity has been the binding element.

Marlies used the  ‘Commedia characters’  (such as Harlequin -Pierrot –
El Dottore etc.) as a metaphor to visualize our human virtues and vices. 
Each Commedia Dell’Arte painting from Marlies’ is like a 'little theatre’.   
The result is a real unique collection of more than 30 colorful 
figurative oil-paintings and watercolors.
