Marlies Vonks’  fascination
with movement and “the theatrical” is clearly shown in her  Caribbean Carnival series from 1988 until 1992. She studied the folklore and observed numerous Carnival Parades on the Dutch Antilles and New Orleans.
For that reason she and her partner/manager Ton Van Loenen lived and worked on Aruba and Curacao for almost two years. This resulted in an impressive number of solo-exhibitions
in Europe – U.S.A. and the Dutch Antilles.
She also gave several Art-Workshops on Curacao.

And last but not least; C& A Computers gave Marlies a  commission for a monumental 6 tych for their new office in Nieuwegein - The Netherlands
